'Jangchung Gymnasium' Awarded Seoul City Fire Safety Model Business Site
High Praise for Establishing Evacuation Broadcast System to Enhance Early Disaster Response Capability
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Jangchung Gymnasium in Jung-gu, Seoul, has been awarded the Grand Prize for Exemplary Fire Safety Management Workplace by the Seoul Fire & Disaster Headquarters, Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 21st.
The Grand Prize for Exemplary Fire Safety Management Workplace is selected through on-site inspections by the Seoul Fire & Disaster Headquarters and evaluations at the Safety Management Best Practice Presentation Contest. The evaluation focuses on ▲safety management ▲fire facility maintenance ▲safety management system categories.
Jangchung Gymnasium received high marks for facility maintenance through systematic safety management by Seoul Facilities Corporation, including the placement and history management of equipment history cards for each facility. Especially, as a complex cultural facility accommodating up to 4,500 users, it was praised for its ‘radio-utilized evacuation broadcast system’ to enhance initial response capabilities in disaster situations such as fires, and for installing fire extinguisher stands along main passageways.
As a sports and cultural complex space, Jangchung Gymnasium can host all indoor sports games such as volleyball, basketball, and handball, as well as various events including concerts, forums, and corporate events.
The main gymnasium has a floor area of 1,832㎡ and seating capacity up to 4,507 including variable seats. Marking its 8th year since opening, Jangchung Gymnasium serves as the home stadium for the professional volleyball teams based in Seoul: the Woori Card Men’s Volleyball Team and the GS Caltex Women’s Volleyball Team.
Jangchung Gymnasium will receive an award plaque (certificate), a commendation from the Mayor of Seoul, prize money, and will be exempted from special fire inspections conducted by fire stations and joint fire drills required at least once a year for two years.
