Gyeongnam Province Accelerates Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Industry Development
Jinju-si, Sacheon-si, Gyeongsang National University, and KAI Sign Business Agreement
Gyeongsangnam-do, Jinju City, Sacheon City, Gyeongsang National University, and KAI signed a business agreement to foster the urban air mobility industry.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 20th, Gyeongsangnam-do signed a business agreement with Korea Aerospace Industries, Jinju City, Sacheon City, Gyeongsang National University, and KAI to foster the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) industry.
According to Gyeongsangnam-do, this agreement was prepared to develop the Gyeongnam region into a global hub for the urban air mobility industry.
Attendees at the signing ceremony included Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do; Cho Gyu-il, Mayor of Jinju; Park Dong-sik, Mayor of Sacheon; Kwon Soon-ki, President of Gyeongsang National University; and Kang Gu-young, CEO of KAI.
The signatory organizations plan to join forces to ▲ establish UAM development plans ▲ provide administrative support such as creating infrastructure necessary for commercialization and reforming various regulatory issues ▲ foster UAM workforce and technology development ▲ develop world-class UAM aircraft and build supply chains.
They plan to hold regular working-level meetings to discuss the promotion of the UAM industry and explore mutual cooperation methods among the organizations.
According to the province, the UAM industry is regarded as a safe and eco-friendly transportation means that can solve problems such as traffic congestion, environmental pollution, noise, and pollution amid rapid urbanization.
The government has launched a public-private consultative body to promote aircraft development and demonstration projects, and companies including KAI, Hyundai Motor Company, Hanwha Systems, and Kencoa Aerospace are engaged in related technology development.

Governor Park said, “Gyeongnam is the center of the domestic aviation industry and has sufficient competitiveness in the urban air mobility industry based on its excellent aviation industry. We hope that this agreement will lead urban air mobility to become a new future growth industry, and that industry-academia-government cooperation will bring about good results.”
