Gwangju Seo-gu Selected for 'Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) has been selected for the '2023 Renewable Energy Convergence Support' public project for the fourth consecutive year and will implement a renewable energy distribution project to create a carbon-neutral energy self-sufficient city by 2045.
According to Seo-gu on the 20th, the 'Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project' is a public project conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, which focuses on distributing two or more types of renewable energy facilities such as solar power and solar heat in a specific area to create energy self-sufficient villages, a core project of the Green New Deal policy.
With this selection, Seo-gu plans to invest a total of 2.26 billion KRW in the project and install renewable energy facilities at 221 locations starting from January next year, with the total project cost over four years reaching approximately 12.26 billion KRW.
Seo-gu is promoting various greenhouse gas reduction projects as a key project of the 8th term mayor’s pledge to realize a green Seo-gu, the number one district for climate crisis response, and is aiming for a transition to a carbon-neutral city.
A Seo-gu official said, “To improve energy self-sufficiency, we plan to continuously apply for public projects and implement renewable energy distribution projects with the goal of distributing Green Villages throughout Seo-gu by 2024,” adding, “We hope for active participation so that the district can take the lead in creating energy self-sufficient villages.”
