Ministry of Science and ICT Conducts Emergency Inspection of IDC... Discusses Ensuring Stability
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 20th that it held an 'Emergency Inspection Meeting for Domestic Data Center Operators' chaired by Deputy Minister Park Yoon-kyu. At the meeting, urgent inspections of protective measures were conducted in preparation for emergencies such as fires at major data centers (IDCs), and ways to ensure safety were discussed.
Prior to the meeting, at the 'Broadcasting and Telecommunications Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters Inspection Meeting' held at 9:30 a.m., Deputy Minister Park (Deputy Head) checked the power supply and service recovery status, noting that many services had been normalized, and urged continuous efforts for stabilization.
At the emergency inspection meeting, detailed protective measures across data centers, including power and fire safety, were reviewed together with major domestic data center operators, and measures to prepare for emergencies such as fires were discussed. Participants included KT Cloud, LG Uplus, SK Broadband, LG CNS, Samsung SDS, Lotte Data Communication, Hana Financial TI, the Data Center Association, and the Korea Information and Communication Industry Research Institute.
Attendees shared the current status of operation and management of redundant facilities such as power, fire-fighting equipment, and batteries to prepare for power outages, fires, and similar emergencies. They agreed to actively cooperate in creating improvement plans to prepare for crisis situations, such as early detection of fire signs and power management by zones.

Deputy Minister Park stated, “Data centers are core infrastructure in the digital era, and to ensure uninterrupted services even in crisis situations, this case should serve as a wake-up call for all operators to conduct meticulous inspections,” adding, “Going forward, the Ministry of Science and ICT will actively cooperate with experts in related fields to improve protection guidelines and strengthen data center safety to prevent recurrence of such incidents.”
