The court only found him guilty of violating medical regulations and some assault charges.
The Criminal Division 12 of the Seoul Western District Court (Chief Judge Andongbeom) sentenced Kang Mo (52), who was indicted on charges of rape, quasi-rape, sexual assault, quasi-sexual assault, assault, and violation of the Medical Service Act, to 2 years in prison and a fine of 5 million won on the 20th at 10:30 a.m.
The court stated, "The victims' testimonies were inconsistent, and the crimes were not proven beyond a reasonable doubt," and "only the violations of the Medical Service Act and some assault charges are recognized as guilty."
Regarding the sentencing reasons, the court said, "Considering that the defendant, a doctor, operated the hospital in an abnormal manner, illegally administered etomidate, falsified medical records, and thus bears heavy responsibility and has abandoned professional ethics as a doctor."
The prosecution had requested the court to sentence Kang to 18 years in prison during the last closing arguments.
According to the prosecution, Kang is a doctor operating a hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and is accused of administering the general anesthesia induction agent 'etomidate' to victims and committing sexual crimes from February 2018 to August last year. He is also accused of falsifying 18 medical records and 8 skin care records as if etomidate was used for treatment purposes and failing to write medical records 62 times.
There are four victims, and it is known that one of them took extreme measures.
