Remodeled Complexes Free from Interfloor Noise... Daewoo Construction Confirms Performance in Apartments Scheduled for Demolition
Daewoo E&C announced on the 20th that its 'Smart Triple Floor Structure,' developed in 2021, has been recognized for its inter-floor noise reduction performance by applying it to a complex that is soon to be demolished.
This recognition of noise reduction performance is significant because it was achieved not under laboratory conditions but by removing the slab finishing in apartments built in the 1980s and 1990s and installing the patented structure on top, thereby receiving official acknowledgment.
Most apartments built in the past had slab thicknesses of less than 150mm, and there were no suitable floor structures applicable for remodeling. Daewoo E&C became the first in the industry to obtain a performance certification for impact sound insulation on-site with a slab thickness of 120mm. This proves that inter-floor noise can be improved using the Smart Triple Floor Structure without simply increasing the slab thickness.
The solution to unavoidable inter-floor noise in thin slab structures is a common question frequently asked by remodeling associations to contractors. Daewoo E&C achieved this result through the combined efforts of its remodeling business team, design, technology, and project management experts over approximately seven months of testing from the initial planning stage.
The Smart Triple Floor Structure developed by Daewoo E&C consists of ▲1st Layer - Load-bearing reinforced concrete ▲2nd Layer - High-elasticity cushioning material ▲3rd Layer - Reinforced mortar (a material made by mixing cement and sand that makes the floor surface flat and firm).
The thickness of the materials is increased and the performance is enhanced compared to existing apartment floor structures. Daewoo E&C completed the patent registration for this technology in January last year and has filed two additional patents for technologies required to construct this structure. Moreover, a 'Inter-floor Noise Notifier' technology that informs the noise intensity through the in-unit wall pad has also been added.
The Smart Triple Floor Structure can omit the foamed concrete process, which requires at least three days for curing (the period after concrete pouring during which it is sufficiently protected from harmful effects), thereby shortening the construction period by more than three days. Additionally, by changing the wet construction to dry construction, it offers advantages in terms of workability.
A Daewoo E&C official stated, "We plan to apply the Smart Triple Floor Structure not only to remodeling complexes but also to Prugio complexes subject to new project plan approvals."
