Naju-si to Hold 'Transparent PET Bottle Exchange Event' on the 22nd
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Jeollanam-do Naju City (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 19th that it will hold a ‘Transparent PET Bottle Exchange Event’ on the 22nd at Bitgaram Lake Park to promote the proper separation and recycling culture of transparent PET bottles.
The event will be held at a booth set up at the Bitgaram Festival venue from 1 PM to 6 PM on a first-come, first-served basis.
Transparent PET bottles with labels and foreign substances removed will be exchanged for volume-based waste bags or recycled products made from waste synthetic resin according to the number of bottles brought.
If you bring 5 transparent PET bottles, you can choose either a toothbrush (1 piece) or a 10L volume-based waste bag; 10 bottles can be exchanged for a pencil case (1 piece); 20 bottles for a knee blanket (1 piece); and 30 bottles for a tote bag (1 piece), while supplies last.
The city plans to promote proper recycling separation guidelines through the event.
PET bottles commonly used at home vary greatly in commercial value depending on the level of contamination at disposal.
The correct disposal method is to empty the contents, rinse, remove the label, crush the bottle, close the cap, and separately collect and dispose of them in transparent bags or dedicated transparent PET bottle collection bins.
In particular, most labels are made of polypropylene, a material different from the PET bottle, making recycling difficult if attached; therefore, it is advisable to remove them even if it is somewhat inconvenient.
Bong Hyung-gyun, head of the Urban Beautification Division of Naju City, said, “Proper separation and disposal of transparent PET bottles not only secures high-quality recycled raw materials but also reduces unnecessary imports of recycled raw materials, saving resources through resource circulation and protecting the environment.” He added, “We hope this event will share the value of waste resource recycling and spread the practice of recycling.”
