[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The "4th International Security Industry Expo," which offers a glimpse into the future security technology of South Korea's police, opened on the 19th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
Held until the 22nd, this expo is hosted by the National Police Agency and Incheon Metropolitan City, and co-organized by Incheon Tourism Organization, Messe Esang, and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). Over 160 companies and research institutions are participating with exhibition booths. In his opening remarks, National Police Agency Commissioner Yoon Hee-geun emphasized, "We will expand research and development in the security field to realize scientific policing through the fusion of science and technology with security." He added, "Police activities based on advanced science and technology will bring a paradigm shift from reactive policing to problem-solving policing."
The expo consists of eight exhibition halls: Access Control & Security Hall, Social Safety & Integrated Control Hall, Traffic Equipment & Systems Hall, Police Personal Equipment Hall, Crime Investigation & Forensics Equipment Hall, Police Mobile Equipment & Drone Hall, Police ICT Hall, and Cybercrime Prevention & Response Hall. Results of research and development on advanced security equipment and systems were displayed. After the opening ceremony, Commissioner Yoon toured the exhibition halls with Lee Sang-yong, Chief of Incheon Police Agency, and Lee Byung-rok, Director of Incheon Autonomous Police Agency. Commissioner Yoon stated, "The realization of scientific policing cannot be achieved by the state or private sector alone; it requires the synergy created by the fusion of government policies and private technologies," and pledged, "We will do our best to develop domestic and international markets for the growth of domestic companies."
As a side event, the "International CSI Conference" featured geneticist Dr. Barbara Rae Venter as the keynote speaker. Known as a master of genetic genealogy, Dr. Rae Venter introduced a technology that extracts DNA nuclei from hair without roots and showcased recently developed genetic genealogy-related devices.
