"Reduced Air Resistance by Redesigning Symbol"... Rolls-Royce's First Electric Car Spectre Unveiled
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] British luxury car brand Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveiled its first pure electric vehicle, the Spectre, on the 19th. It is in the final stages of development with the goal of customer delivery in the fourth quarter of next year.
The front of the vehicle is reminiscent of the Phantom Coupe. The grille is widened and separated headlights emphasize the width of over 2 meters. The brand’s iconic symbol, the “Spirit of Ecstasy,” was also redesigned separately considering the airflow at the front. The aerodynamic coefficient is 0.25Cd, the lowest among all Rolls-Royce vehicles made to date.
The lower side of the vehicle draws inspiration from yacht design, and the body surface reflects the road like a racing yacht hull reflecting the water surface. The roofline flows smoothly from the roof to the rear in a fastback design. For the first time on a mass-produced 2-door coupe model, 23-inch wheels have been fitted.
Inside, the starlight door with 4,796 stars engraved on the inside of the coach doors stands out. The color of the Centrefacia clock dial can be custom ordered, and some parts of the front seats can also be chosen in desired colors. A digital feature named Spirit is applied, allowing the driver to communicate with the vehicle remotely.
The new car is built on a “Luxury Architecture” made entirely of 100% aluminum. It has about 30% improved rigidity compared to previous Rolls-Royce vehicles. The connected performance is also the highest ever. More than 1,000 vehicle functions flexibly exchange information to enhance ride comfort. Planner suspension is applied, coordinating multiple systems with the latest software, high-speed processing capabilities, and new hardware to respond to the driver’s situation and road conditions, improving ride quality.
The 2-door 4-seater model measures 5,453 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,210 mm. The curb weight is 2,975 kg. According to preliminary data, the driving range is approximately 520 km based on WLTP standards, powertrain output is 430 kW, and torque is 91.8 kg·m. It takes 4.5 seconds (estimated at this stage) to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Orders are available immediately, with the first customer deliveries targeted for the fourth quarter of next year. The company stated that the price will be set between the Cullinan and the Phantom base models.
