KOTRA Promotes 'K-Webtoon' at the World's Largest Book Fair
Promotion Material Exhibition and Consultation Agency for 11 Domestic Small and Medium Webtoon Companies through the 'Export Plus' Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) will operate a K-Webtoon promotional booth at the "2022 Frankfurter Buchmesse," held in Frankfurt, Germany, from the 19th to the 23rd of this month. This event is organized to support the entry of domestic webtoon content into the European market.
The Frankfurter Buchmesse, first held in 1949, is the world's largest book fair held annually. This year, a total of 3,958 companies from 97 countries are expected to participate. Among them, 48 domestic companies will participate, ranking 17th among all participating countries.
KOTRA's Frankfurt Trade Center will operate a promotional booth for 11 domestic small and medium-sized webtoon companies at this exhibition. Even after the exhibition ends, they plan to conduct online consultations between domestic supported companies and European buyers in collaboration with 23 European trade centers.
Earlier in June, KOTRA's Frankfurt Trade Center held a webinar in cooperation with the Korea Creative Content Agency to introduce the emerging K-Webtoon market trends in Germany. In August, they operated a K-Webtoon promotion booth at the German regional festival "Freiluft Frankfurt," continuously promoting entry into the local market.

Lee Gilbeom, head of KOTRA's Europe Regional Headquarters, said, "Riding the wave of the Hallyu boom spreading across Europe, K-Webtoons are gaining attention as the next promising export sector following K-Beauty and K-Food." He added, "Despite the difficult circumstances caused by recent global inflation and the prolonged Ukraine crisis, we will actively support efforts on the ground to ensure continued success in 'Export Plus'." Export Plus is a focused export expansion support project conducted by KOTRA in the second half of this year to respond comprehensively to the trade deficit crisis.
