Visang Education Obtains Patent for Technology Applying Antibacterial Coating During Printing
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Visang Education, a publisher of government- and prosecution-approved textbooks, announced on the 17th that it has developed a technology that applies antibacterial substances during the printing process without adding separate steps, and has been recognized with a patent.
The patent acquired by Visang Education is for "Printed materials and printing methods in which antibacterial substances are applied during the printing process," characterized by the application of antibacterial substances during printing, imparting antibacterial functionality with 99.9% antibacterial efficacy to the printed materials.
Visang Education commissioned a national accredited testing agency to conduct antibacterial function tests on printed materials using this printing method. The test results showed a 99.9% antibacterial bacteriostatic reduction rate against Staphylococcus aureus and pneumonia bacteria.
The reason Visang Education embarked on developing this new technology is that since textbooks and printed materials used daily by students have a high possibility of harboring bacteria harmful to the human body, they judged that there is a great need to enhance antibacterial functionality.
Previously, antibacterial functionality was added by applying antibacterial treatment to printed materials after printing, which required additional processes and time. The antibacterial treatment method using antibacterial ink increases costs, and antibacterial functionality is not applied to blank areas where ink does not adhere.
The technology recognized by the patent this time does not add separate steps to apply antibacterial substances during the printing process, and the company explained that antibacterial functionality is applied to the entire paper. Visang Education is currently applying this technology to all textbooks and teaching materials produced through rotary printing.
Choi Dae-chan, CEO of Visang Education Publishing Company, said, "We are currently filing various patents related to textbook production, including methods using thermochromic pigments that change color according to temperature along with antibacterial functionality," adding, "We plan to continuously advance printing technology and processes so that countless students can learn in a safer and healthier environment."
