On the 14th, numerous posts appeared on an online community where Uijeongbu residents gather, stating that Kim Geun-sik will move into a rehabilitation facility within Uijeongbu. Residents expressed concerns about Kim's potential recidivism and posted messages urging to block his admission.
Kim Dong-geun, mayor of Uijeongbu, also demanded the withdrawal of the designation for Kim Geun-sik's admission to the Uijeongbu rehabilitation facility. At an emergency press conference held that day, he said, "This morning, we confirmed from a government agency that Kim Geun-sik is scheduled to enter the Korea Rehabilitation Welfare Corporation under the Ministry of Justice, a rehabilitation facility in Uijeongbu," and emphasized, "We will strongly demand the Minister of Justice to revoke the admission designation to the Uijeongbu rehabilitation facility."
Experts see a high possibility of Kim Geun-sik's recidivism. Cha Seung-min, a former specialist at the National Forensic Hospital (formerly a treatment detention center) with experience treating criminal psychiatric patients, diagnosed Kim Geun-sik with pedophilia on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the 14th. He expressed concern, saying, "If sexual targets appear right in front of him, the likelihood that he cannot resist is high."
Regarding Kim Geun-sik receiving over 300 hours of psychological treatment in prison, Specialist Cha evaluated it as "a very important treatment." He added, "Moreover, the most powerful treatment is actually a combination of psychiatric medication to reduce impulsivity and chemical castration, known as sexual impulse drug therapy."
Earlier, profiler Pyo Chang-won also stated on the SBS current affairs program 'Unanswered Questions' on the 1st that "child sexual offenders diagnosed with paraphilia cannot be completely cured through psychiatric treatment," and diagnosed, "Kim Geun-sik's crimes are not one-time incidents. They are intentional, planned, and habitual." He warned, "The possibility of recidivism exceeds 100%. Kim Geun-sik will inevitably reoffend."
