'2022 Paju Buksori' Held at Asia Publishing Culture & Information Center from 21st to 23rd
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] The domestic representative book festival, ‘2022 Paju Book Sound,’ hosted and organized by Paju City and the Publishing City Cultural Foundation and sponsored by the Gyeonggi Content Agency, will be held from the 21st to the 23rd at the Asia Publishing Culture Information Center in Paju Publishing City and local libraries.
This year’s theme is '탐 (貪),' focusing on the new meaning of '탐 (貪),' a mode of human existence. Various programs featuring new intellectual explorations such as the nature of indulging in fascination and the birth of desiring humans will welcome visitors.
At the opening ceremony held on the afternoon of the 21st at Wisdom Forest 2 in Paju Publishing Complex, the event will begin with an opening concert by the rock band Annyeongbada, followed by talks and performances by poet Oh Eun and singer-songwriter Oksang Dalbit.
This year’s festival explores philosophical themes alongside books. Humanities and arts programs with different themes that provide insight into the concerns and lives of modern people await visitors. The humanities and arts programs are composed of '探 (Find 탐) - Exploration,' which deals with the process of finding oneself; '耽 (Enjoy 탐) - Indulgence,' which contemplates beings that bring joy to modern people; and '貪 (Greedy 탐) - Greed,' which examines a different meaning of 탐. These programs offer meaningful time through book talks and workshops. In '探 (Find 탐) - Exploration,' architect Im Hyeongnam and writer Han Iri will conduct book talks and workshops respectively. In '耽 (Enjoy 탐) - Indulgence,' writer Eun Yu’s workshop and book talks featuring writers Lee Seul-ah and Hyun Hee-jin are prepared. In '貪 (Greedy 탐) - Greed,' book talks by writers Yojo and Lee Yuri, as well as a workshop by writer Kim Hyeji, are scheduled.
Performances where literature and music meet will also attract visitors. Kim Mokin, a musician and writer, the male four-member jazz band Prelude from Berklee, the theater company Silhan that communicates with the world through art, and Sue?o, who created the genre called ‘Classical Tango,’ will cross the boundaries between books and art. Book curation centered on this year’s theme ‘탐’ and participatory exhibition programs such as the exhibition ‘탐.탐.탐’ (Multipurpose Hall, Book Sound Bookstore), the author’s room theme zone ‘Painting, Author’s Room’ (Multipurpose Room), where visitors can see and experience the author’s daily works, and the book exhibition ‘100 Years of Bookshelf’ (Reception Room in Wisdom Forest) held to commemorate the Korean edition publication of Marx/Engels are also prepared.
This year’s festival also operates regional linkage programs that allow enjoyment of the festival throughout Paju City. Curation programs unique to the Book Sound Festival will be introduced through Paju City public libraries, small libraries, and neighborhood bookstores. The Paju Cultural Center will hold the ‘Paju Story Picture Exhibition’ on the 22nd and 23rd, conveying the vivid life of Paju.
A special time exclusive to the Book Sound Festival is also prepared. From 8 p.m. on the 21st at Wisdom Forest 2, ‘BooKing, Night,’ where participants share sincere stories with book reviewers and enjoy various quizzes, will be presented. Additionally, on the 22nd and 23rd at the Multipurpose Hall, the ‘Flea Market + Art Market’ and the ‘Book Sound Market SELL&BUY,’ where book-related items can be bartered, will be held.
