Ourhome Achieves Top Grade 'Zero Waste Landfill' for the First Time in the Food Industry
Ourhome Gyeryong Factory Waste Recycling Rate Verified at 100%... Recycled into Compost, Feed, and Alternative Fuel
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Ourhome announced on the 13th that it has become the first company in the food industry to achieve the highest grade of 'Platinum' in the international verification of 'Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL)'.
The Zero Waste to Landfill international verification is used as an indicator to evaluate a company's resource circulation efforts, and is verified by UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science. The system assigns grades such as Platinum (100%), Gold (95-99%), and Silver (90-94%) based on the percentage of waste generated at the business site that is recycled back into resources without incineration or landfill.
Ourhome is the first in the food industry to receive the Platinum grade. The business site awarded the Platinum grade is the Ourhome Gyeryong Factory, which produces tofu and bread. It was verified for the highest grade recycling rate for over 1,700 tons of waste including plant residues from product manufacturing, wastewater sludge (residues from wastewater treatment), and waste synthetic resins. The discharged waste is utilized as compost and feed, and some combustible waste such as waste vinyl is recycled as alternative fuel.
Previously, the Ourhome Gyeryong Factory had obtained a 'Circular Resource Certification' from the Ministry of Environment by converting baking by-products and processed soybean by-products (biji) into livestock feed and feed raw materials.

An Ourhome official stated, “Starting with the Gyeryong Factory, we will promote zero waste to landfill aiming for 100% waste recycling rate at all business sites and continuously discover Ministry of Environment-recognized circular resources. We will actively carry out activities to reduce waste generation and improve resource circulation rates not only at manufacturing plants but also at all business sites including cafeterias and logistics centers.”
