Meta Unveils Latest Virtual Reality Headset Priced at 2.19 Million KRW... Launching on the 25th
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Meta, the operator of Facebook and Instagram, unveiled its latest virtual reality (VR) headset on the 11th (local time).
Meta held its annual conference, 'Meta Connect 2022,' sharing its journey and vision for the metaverse. At the event, it introduced the new headset 'Meta Quest Pro,' announced partnerships with companies such as Microsoft, and revealed new features for the VR work collaboration hub ‘Horizon Workrooms.’
The newly released Meta Quest Pro is the first premium headset launched ambitiously one year after Meta changed its name from Facebook in October last year. It includes features such as high-resolution sensors for a robust mixed reality experience, an LCD display for clear visuals, 'eye tracking,' and 'natural facial expression' technology to create realistic avatars.
The Meta Quest Pro package consists of the headset, Touch Pro controllers with stylus pen tips, partial light blockers, and a charging dock, and will be sold for 2.19 million KRW. This price is more than three times higher than the existing Quest 2 headset released at the end of 2020. Pre-orders start today, with deliveries beginning on the 25th.
Meta announced a new partnership for next-generation work innovation with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Accenture CEO Julie Sweet. The Meta Quest Pro is designed for work use and will provide productivity tools through this partnership with Microsoft.

New features for ‘Horizon Workrooms’ were also introduced to enable various teams to collaborate together in the metaverse space.
Meta plans to launch ‘Quest for Business,’ a business subscription bundle including essential management features such as device and app management, next year to create a more efficient work environment.
So far, the cumulative transaction amount through the Meta Quest Store for games and applications has exceeded $1.5 billion, approximately 2.15 trillion KRW. Accordingly, updates were shared for the gaming and fitness sectors, where explosive growth of the VR developer ecosystem is expected, along with plans for YouTube VR collaboration and the Meta VR Avatar Store to drive social innovation.
