Jeju Police Agency Operates Outreach Offender Rehabilitation Program
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Police Agency (Chief Lee Sang-ryul) announced on the 11th that, for the first time nationwide, it will operate a "Visiting Offender Rehabilitation Program" targeting "high-risk female violence offenders" detained in detention centers.
The "Visiting Offender Rehabilitation Program" was finalized after active consultations and opinion gathering since early this year with the Jeju Police Agency, Jeju Autonomous Police Committee, Jeju Province, and specialized institutions and organizations operating offender correction programs within the province.
Additionally, the Community Chest of Korea provides budget support, and the Jeju Family Love Counseling Center operates the on-site counseling program.
The Jeju Police Agency supports the identification and connection of subjects and provides counseling locations.
The program targets high-risk offenders of female violence crimes such as domestic violence, stalking, and dating violence, who have been decided by the court to be detained in detention centers (within one month) or released after the rejection of arrest warrants.
As of the end of August, the number of high-risk offenders in the Jeju area reached a total of 58, including 49 detention center detentions and 9 rejected arrest warrants.
A Jeju police official said, "We hope that the newly implemented 'Visiting Offender Rehabilitation Program' will fundamentally reduce the risk of recidivism among high-risk offenders, allowing victims to return to peaceful daily lives."
He added, "Going forward, the police will continue to actively cooperate with the Autonomous Police Committee, Jeju Province, and women-related institutions and organizations to continuously promote female safety measures tailored to the Jeju region, making every effort to create a 'Safe Jeju for Women.'"
