The Presidential Office stated in a press release distributed that day, "Kim Kwan-yong, the appointee for Senior Vice Chairman of the National Unification Advisory Council, has devoted over 40 years to public service, having served three terms as Mayor of Gumi and three terms as Governor of Gyeongbuk," adding, "He is a senior figure in administration and politics, possessing not only administrative skills but also political acumen through diverse experiences."
It continued, "Based on his unique affinity and inclusiveness, he is the right person to actively dedicate himself to policy advice for democratic peaceful unification, to derive broad national consensus both domestically and internationally, and to unite pan-national will and capabilities."
