Korean Medical Biojournalists Association and Seoul City Establish 'Mental Illness Reporting Guidelines'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Korean Medical Biojournalists Association announced on the 7th that it has jointly prepared and published the "Mental Illness Reporting Guidelines 1.0" with the Seoul Mental Health Welfare Center, the Seoul Mental Health Welfare Project Support Group, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
This guideline is the first of its kind, created by analyzing domestic and international reporting standards related to mental illness, with the aim of providing accurate information about mental illness.
The main contents include ▲ careful use of terms related to mental illness ▲ minimizing mentions of mental illness in article headlines ▲ refraining from arbitrarily establishing causal relationships between mental illness and crime ▲ making efforts to include opinions of related parties ▲ attaching statements such as "Mental illness is preventable and recoverable" in articles.
