On the 7th, the Ministry of National Defense announced a legislative notice to amend the "Military Security Support Command Ordinance," changing the name of the Military Security Support Command (Security Support Command) to the Korean Military Counterintelligence Command.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, the Security Support Command recently proposed this change to the Ministry after discussions by a task force (TF) for unit innovation to strengthen capabilities decided to change the name to the Korean Military Counterintelligence Command to better reflect the unit's identity and mission representation. The Ministry explained that it recognized the necessity of this name change and proceeded with the ordinance amendment.
It is also known that the Security Support Command conducted a survey among its personnel to gather opinions on the new unit name. Some personnel opposed including "Counterintelligence" in the name, associating it with the past "Counterintelligence Unit" which exercised unchecked authority.

The Ministry of National Defense plans to collect opinions until the legislative notice period ends on the 14th, and after going through the Vice Ministerial Meeting and the Cabinet Meeting, will implement the changed name immediately upon promulgation. If the name is changed as announced, the Security Support Command will have its name changed again just over four years after the Korean Military Security Command, which changed its name from the Korean Military Security Command in 1991, was disbanded in September 2018 and the new command was established.
