National Gwangju Museum, Lee Kun-hee Special Exhibition Until January Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The National Gwangju Museum will hold a special exhibition of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee's donations titled "Invitation of a Collector" from the 5th until January 29th next year. This is the first regional special exhibition of Lee Kun-hee's donated items held by the National Museum of Korea.
The special exhibition showcases a total of 271 pieces across 170 items, including Jeong Seon’s (鄭敾) "Inwang Jesaekdo (仁王霽色圖)" as well as national treasures and treasures. The exhibition is organized into the themes of "Taste" and "Discernment."
Under the "Taste" theme, various ceramics such as celadon favored by the late Chairman Lee Byung-chul and white porcelain and buncheong ware enjoyed by the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee are displayed. Beautiful calligraphy and paintings by representative artists from the early Joseon period to modern times are newly revealed. These include "Lee Sangjwa Buddhist Painting Album (李上佐佛?帖)" (Treasure) by Lee Sangjwa (李上佐), a painter from the early Joseon period, "Court Buddhist Worship Painting (宮中崇佛圖)" depicting Buddhist events held in the mid-Joseon royal court, Kim Hong-do’s (金弘道) "Stepping on Frost to the Market (踏霜出市圖)," Choi Buk’s (崔北) "Fishing on the Han River (寒江釣魚圖)," and Hong Se-seop’s (洪世燮) 10-panel "Bird and Flower Paintings (花鳥圖)," among others.
Under the "Discernment" theme, a total of 31 items across 16 works (5 national treasures with 8 pieces, 11 treasures with 23 pieces) recognized for their value and excellence as nationally designated cultural properties are introduced.
Jeong Seon’s "Inwang Jesaekdo" (National Treasure) and Kim Hong-do’s last dated work "Chuseong Budo (秋聲賦圖)" (Treasure) will each be exhibited for four weeks. The "White Porcelain Blue Bamboo Pattern Bottle" (National Treasure), which became part of the Lee Kun-hee family collection and was later designated as a national treasure, will also be displayed.

Dasan Jeong Yak-yong’s (丁若鏞) "Jeong Hyoja Jeon (鄭孝子傳)" and "Jeong Buin Jeon (鄭婦人傳)," written during his exile in Gangjin, Jeollanam-do, will be revealed for four weeks each. These works contain the touching story of his devoted son Jeong Gwan-il, who passed away early at the request of Gangjin native Jeong Yeo-ju, and his daughter-in-law left alone.
