A man in his 20s who was riding a motorcycle without a license was sentenced to prison after driving approximately 60 meters with a traffic police officer tied to the motorcycle.

The Criminal Division 1 of the Western Branch of Busan District Court (Chief Judge Lee Jin-hyuk) announced on the 3rd that it sentenced Mr. A (26), who was tried on charges including obstruction of official duties causing injury, to 1 year and 6 months in prison and a fine of 300,000 won.
Mr. A was prosecuted for riding about 60 meters with traffic police officer Mr. B hanging on the motorcycle at the Deokcheon Intersection in Buk-gu, Busan, on March 15 while being under investigation.
According to the investigation, Mr. A was caught by the police for not wearing a helmet while riding the motorcycle. Officer B identified Mr. A’s unlicensed driving through identity verification and tried to block his escape by holding the motorcycle handlebar. In response, Mr. A suddenly accelerated the motorcycle and began to flee. Officer B was dragged about 60 meters while hanging on the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries requiring four weeks of medical treatment.

The court stated, "The incident could have led to a major accident, and the defendant obstructed the police officer’s legitimate official duties, causing injury, which shows the serious nature of the crime." It added, "Considering that Mr. A is a first-time offender with no prior criminal record," as the reason for sentencing.
