On the 30th, the city announced plans to provide taxi drivers with an incentive of 20% of the fare to expand taxi operations from 10 PM to midnight, a time when demand is high but late-night surcharges (midnight to 4 AM) do not apply.
The main point is to pay 20% of the fare in full when the taxi fare is under 10,000 KRW, and a fixed amount of 2,000 KRW as a cap when the fare exceeds 10,000 KRW.
The incentives will be provided temporarily from next month, when an increase in taxi usage is expected, until the end of December.
The temporary incentive payment is being promoted in response to the current nationwide situation where the number of transportation workers is decreasing and there is a strong preference for daytime operations, making it difficult to catch taxis during late-night hours.
While other regions such as Seoul and Busan have introduced policies like lifting taxi restrictions due to the same issue, the city explained that these measures have not shown effective results, leading to the decision to provide incentives.
