A was prosecuted for hitting and killing a woman in her 50s while driving under the influence on a road in Wolsan-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, around 10:35 p.m. on March 28.
A was driving at about 100 km/h on a road with a speed limit of 50 km/h and failed to notice the victim standing at the edge of the road, causing a fatal accident.
At the time, his blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.135%.
The court explained, "The defendant admitted to the crime and is reflecting on it, reached a settlement with the bereaved families during the investigation stage and petitioned for leniency, and is a first-time offender with no prior criminal record, which are favorable circumstances."

However, the court stated the sentencing reason, "Since the defendant drove a passenger car at high speed while under the influence, making normal driving difficult, resulting in death, the crime is very serious. Considering the high blood alcohol concentration level, a prison sentence is inevitable."
