[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 28th, Buk-gu, Gwangju announced that it secured 36 million won in national funding after being selected in two categories in the '2023 Regional Cultural Heritage Utilization Project' contest hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration.
The Regional Cultural Heritage Utilization Project is promoted annually by the Cultural Heritage Administration in five categories to increase residents' opportunities to enjoy culture by utilizing the historical significance and value of regional cultural heritage, and to support regional economic revitalization and job creation.
This time, Buk-gu was selected in the Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage category utilizing Wonhyosa Temple at the foot of Mudeungsan Mountain and in the Living Cultural Heritage category utilizing cultural assets related to General Kim Deokryeong.
The Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage project, under the theme "Small but Certain Happiness Found in the Mountain Temple, The Healing Story IV," will present three programs: a forest experience walking from Wonhyosa Temple to Tokkideung, a Dongbudo pop-up book enjoyed at Wonhyoru Pavilion, and the Mudeungsan Turtle Marathon with people with disabilities.
Additionally, the Living Cultural Heritage project, themed "Let's Play with Mudeung's Righteous General Kim Deokryeong," plans to operate four programs: a reenactment play of General Kim Deokryeong with residents, foreigner homestay camping, an experiential event with descendants of Kim Deokryeong, and the Bus Story of Kim Deokryeong told by a storytelling grandmother.
Director Moon said, "Being selected for this contest will be a great opportunity to promote the excellent value of our region's history and cultural heritage," and added, "We will develop and promote various cultural heritage utilization programs that residents and tourists can enjoy together."
Meanwhile, Buk-gu has achieved the remarkable feat of being selected for seven consecutive years since 2017 in the Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage category and a total of nine times since 2013 in the Living Cultural Heritage category by utilizing regional cultural assets.
