'Thank you, Hangeul'... 2022 Hangeul Week Opens on the 4th of Next Month
Various Cultural Events Including Commemorative Performances, Exhibitions, and Experiences from the 4th to the 10th of Next Month

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 21st that it will hold the '2022 Hangul Week' event from the 4th to the 10th of next month to commemorate the 576th anniversary of Hangul Day this year.
This year's event will be held under the theme 'Thank You, Hangul.' Various cultural events will be presented in collaboration with the National Hangeul Museum, the National Institute of the Korean Language, and the Sejong Institute Foundation.
At the National Hangeul Museum, events that the public can participate in and enjoy, such as the Hangul Day Eve event, special Hangul Day performances, exhibitions, and hands-on activities, have been prepared. The Hangul Day Eve event will be held on the 8th of next month at the outdoor stage of the National Hangeul Museum.
The Seoul Orchestra and Seoul Kodai Singers will perform 'Singing with Consonant Sounds,' a collection of songs whose titles begin with 14 Hangul consonants from Giyeok to Hieut, in celebration of Hangul Day. Following this, the Sejong Cultural Awards ceremony and congratulatory performances will take place.
On Hangul Day, the 9th, exhibition and hands-on events such as 'Songs with Beautiful Lyrics' and the 'Hangul Handwritten Letter and Hangul Photo Contest' will be showcased.
The National Institute of the Korean Language will hold the '2022 World Korean Language Festival Academic Conference' at the Korea Press Center from the 6th to the 7th of next month, where Korean language scholars, teachers, and language industry professionals from home and abroad will gather to share research achievements and form networks. This academic conference, held under the theme 'Korean Connecting the World, Hangul Leading the Future,' is expected to involve 14 academic organizations related to Korean linguistics.
The Sejong Institute Foundation will invite about 210 outstanding learners selected from 151 Sejong Institutes in 67 countries to Korea from the 5th to the 11th of next month for a Korean culture training program. Participants plan to take part in the Sejong Institute Korean Speaking and Writing Contest, the Hangul Week Eve event, and experience Korean culture.
Twelve cultural and artistic organizations nationwide, selected through a contest, will also prepare various Hangul Week events. These include performances such as the musical 'Sejong, 1446' by the Yeoju Sejong Cultural Foundation, the 'Hangul Song Lyrics Contest' by the Mapo Cultural Foundation, the 'Sejong the Great Traditional Arts Competition' by the Sejong the Great Memorial Project Association, and academic conferences by Korean language organizations.
