Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority Accelerates Development of Songdo Fashion Cluster
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Fashion Group Hyungji has announced the beginning of the 'Incheon Songdo Era.'
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority held a ceremony on the 21st to commemorate the move-in of Hyungji Group's headquarters and its affiliates to Songdo International City.
The event, held alongside Hyungji's 40th anniversary celebration, was attended by various figures including Kim Jinyong, head of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, former Prime Minister Chung Un-chan, and former Deputy Prime Minister Oh Myung, who congratulated the opening of Hyungji's Songdo era.
The Hyungji Global Fashion Complex Center is a building with three basement floors and 23 above-ground floors, located in front of the Knowledge Information Danji Station on Incheon Subway Line 1. It consists of three buildings: office (17 floors above ground), officetel (23 floors above ground), and retail facilities (3 floors above ground), completed in December last year.
The office facilities house Hyungji's headquarters, which were previously located in Yeoksam-dong and Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, as well as affiliates such as Castelbajac, Hyungji Elite, Hyungji Esquire, Hyungji I&C, and Neo Fashion Hyungji.
The fashion complex center will also serve functions related to fashion design, global marketing, and research and development (R&D). Convention facilities have been established to hold regular events for affiliate representatives and dealership owners.
Founded in 1982, Fashion Group Hyungji owns 23 brands including women's wear Crocodile Ladies, men's wear Yejak, and school uniforms Elite, operating over 2,300 stores nationwide. It has also expanded into distribution, currently operating Art Malling Busan Main Store in Saha-gu, Busan, and Art Malling Jang-an Store in Seoul.
Choi Byung-oh, chairman of Hyungji Group, stated, "The Songdo Global Fashion Complex Center will be a springboard for soaring into the future by consolidating all the capabilities accumulated over the past 40 years of Hyungji, which started as a small clothing store in Dongdaemun and has undergone continuous change and innovation. We will focus on pioneering overseas markets from Songdo, a global forward base, to create a new growth legend."
Meanwhile, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to accelerate the creation of a 'fashion cluster' by attracting fashion-related educational institutions, companies, and distribution facilities following Hyungji's move to Songdo. The vision is to establish Songdo as a so-called 'K-Fashion' forward base comparable to Paris, Milan, and New York.
