Quarterly Operating Profit and Loss Trends of Top 500 Companies Since 2000
67 Large Corporations Maintain Over 10 Years of Consecutive Profits
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] Among the top 500 domestic companies, 10 companies including KT&G, SK Telecom, CJ ENM, and Hyundai Mobis have recorded consecutive profits for 90 quarters from 2000 to this year. In the past 10 years, 67 companies have recorded consecutive profits for 40 quarters, with Naver having the highest average operating profit margin.
On the 21st, CEO Score, a corporate data research institute, announced these results after investigating the operating profit trends of 351 companies among the top 500 domestic companies that submitted quarterly reports from 2000 to the second quarter of this year, based on quarterly reports posted on the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system.
According to CEO Score, companies that recorded consecutive profits for more than 90 quarters from the first quarter of 2000 to the second quarter of this year include ▲KT&G ▲SK Telecom ▲Hansome ▲Korea Zinc ▲S-1 ▲CJ ENM ▲Shinsegae ▲Hyundai Mobis ▲Yuhan Corporation ▲Gukdo Chemical, etc.
Among those who started submitting quarterly reports midway through the investigation period, ▲Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (89 quarters) ▲GS EPS (83 quarters) ▲Naver (82 quarters) ▲Kiwoom Securities (73 quarters) ▲Hyundai Glovis (66 quarters), and 25 others have recorded profits every quarter since submitting quarterly reports. Also, ▲LG Household & Health Care (85 quarters) ▲Hyundai Department Store (79 quarters) ▲LX Hausys (53 quarters) ▲Youngone Corporation (52 quarters) ▲SK Lubricants (51 quarters), and 24 others have maintained consecutive profits every quarter since their establishment (or spin-off).
There are also 67 companies that have maintained consecutive profits for more than 40 quarters (10 years) recently. Among these companies, Naver had the highest average operating profit margin. Naver's average operating profit margin was 39.8% over 82 quarters. This was followed by ▲NCSoft (36.1%, 84 quarters) ▲KT&G (35.3%, 90 quarters) ▲Seegene (26.8%, 50 quarters) ▲Kiwoom Securities (20.8%, 73 quarters) ▲Shinhan Card (20.5%, 58 quarters), and so on.
Some companies recorded losses. Nongshim recorded consecutive profits for 89 quarters until the first quarter of this year but turned to a loss in the second quarter. Ssangyong Motor and Samsung Heavy Industries have been in continuous losses for more than four years. Ssangyong Motor has recorded losses for 22 quarters since the first quarter of 2017, and Samsung Heavy Industries for 19 quarters since the fourth quarter of 2017.
