Gyeonggi-do Accelerates K-Future Car Valley Development... First TF Meeting on the 20th
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has begun establishing a collaborative system among city and county governments, industry, academia, and research experts to create the K-Future Car Valley, linking major automobile parts company clusters within the province with Pangyo Techno Valley.
On the 20th, Gyeonggi Province held the first meeting of the K-Future Car Valley Innovation Task Force (TF) at the Gyeonggi Headquarters of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute in Siheung City.
Attendees included experts in related fields such as Kim Gyu-hong, Director of Seoul National University Siheung Campus; Professor Yoon Il-soo of Ajou University; and Lee Young-jae, Lead Researcher of Future Air Mobility (AAM) at Hyundai Motor Company.
Also participating were Gyeonggi Province-affiliated organizations including the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency, Gyeonggi Research Institute, Gyeonggi Technopark, and the Next Generation Convergence Technology Institute, along with 11 cities and counties promoting future car projects such as Suwon, Seongnam, Hwaseong, Bucheon, Namyangju, Ansan, Pyeongtaek, Anyang, Siheung, Gwangmyeong, and Gwacheon.
The province plans to establish an innovative future car valley ecosystem by linking automobile parts company clusters in the southwestern region of the province?including Ansan, Gwangmyeong, Hwaseong, and Siheung?with the autonomous driving technology company cluster centered in Seongnam’s Pangyo Techno Valley.
Through this, the goal is to secure a manufacturing base for future car manufacturers by integrating regional element technologies and innovating manufacturing processes, and to gain a leading industrial innovation foundation for autonomous driving technology development and demonstration.
At the first meeting, Yoo Young-ho, Director of the Mobility Industry Policy Office at the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, gave a presentation on trends in the automobile industry, central government policies, and development plans for the future car industry.
Following this, each city shared key projects they are focusing on and discussed practical difficulties and suggestions for regulatory improvements.
Starting with this first meeting, the K-Future Car Valley Innovation Task Force (TF) will share the basic direction for fostering the future car industry in Gyeonggi Province, and jointly work on plans to create an innovative ecosystem and develop hubs for the future car valley, aiming for innovation and advancement of the densely concentrated future car industry within the province.

A provincial official stated, "This meeting marks the first step for Gyeonggi Province, which has positioned 'fostering future cars, semiconductors, and bio industries' as a core pledge of the 8th local government administration, to nurture future car-related industries. Going forward, through regular K-Future Car Valley Innovation Task Force (TF) meetings, we will establish Gyeonggi Province’s vision and mid- to long-term strategies, and discover practical action plans to build and lead an innovative ecosystem related to future cars."
