Criticism and Alternatives to Kim Dong-yeon's Provincial Administration: 'Red Team 1st Generation' Launches at the End of September
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is set to fully activate the 'Red Team,' composed of public officials, to provide internal criticism and propose alternatives for provincial administration.
On the 20th, Gyeonggi Province announced that about a month after Governor Kim Dong-yeon declared, "We will create a Red Team dedicated to delivering candid criticism within the provincial government," the first Red Team has been selected and will begin full-scale activities by the end of this month.
By the 14th, 48 provincial government employees had applied for the first Red Team, demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to this new initiative. The province selected members by comprehensively considering factors such as department, function, gender, and age among the applicants.
For the operation of the Red Team, private experts were appointed: Lee Young-joo, a member of the Provincial Administration Advisory Committee and former director of the Seoul National University Human Rights Counseling Center, as the Red Team leader, and Yang Dong-su, CEO of the social innovation company The Ham, as deputy leader.
Since his inauguration, Governor Kim Dong-yeon has emphasized a "plate-breaking administration" that breaks away from past practices to Gyeonggi public officials. This means abandoning uncritical adherence to precedent and reconsidering everything from the perspective of the residents. On the 11th of last month, he also revealed plans to operate the Red Team during a provincial government press briefing.
The Red Team will play a role in supplementing policies by freely presenting opinions that open all possibilities from the residents' standpoint and critically reviewing policies when the province promotes them.
The province will hold the first meeting for the first Red Team at the end of this month and will continue to meet biweekly for three months thereafter.
Meeting agendas will include items from executive meetings and major policy projects, as well as topics freely identified within the team.
