Ko Jin-young Retains World No.1 Ranking... Park Min-ji Leaps to 14th Place
[Asia Economy Reporter Byeon Seon-jin] Ko Jin-young (27) has maintained her position as the No. 1 in the women's golf world rankings.
Ko Jin-young's average points in the world rankings announced on the 19th (local time) dropped by 0.17 points from last week (8.4 points) to 8.23 points, but she retained her No. 1 spot. Ko Jin-young has been holding the world No. 1 position since early February this year.
Ko Jin-young faced a risk of losing her top spot. After missing the cut consecutively at the LPGA Tour AIG Women's Open and CP Women's Open in August and then sitting out until early October due to a wrist injury, she was in danger of being overtaken. If Nelly Korda (USA), who is ranked second, had won the Portland Classic held in Portland, Oregon, she might have taken the No. 1 ranking. However, Nelly Korda finished tied for 31st, resulting in no change in the world rankings. Due to this tournament, Korda's average points dropped by 0.32 points from the previous week to 7.79, widening the gap with Ko Jin-young to 0.44 points.
Minjee Lee (Australia) and Lydia Ko (New Zealand) maintained their 3rd and 4th places respectively. Atthaya Thitikul (Thailand) pushed Brooke Henderson (Canada) down to 6th place and rose to 5th. Jeon In-ji (28) and Kim Hyo-joo (27) ranked 8th and 9th respectively. Park Min-ji (24), who achieved her 4th win of the season at the KB Financial Star Championship on the KLPGA Tour that concluded on the 18th, improved her personal best ranking to a tie for 14th place.

In the men's golf world rankings, the top five remained unchanged with Scottie Scheffler (USA), Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Cameron Smith (Australia), Patrick Cantlay, and Xander Schauffele (both USA) holding positions 1 through 5. Cameron Smith, who transferred to LIV Golf, won his first title at the 5th LIV Golf Invitational Series event, but LIV Series tournaments are not reflected in the world rankings.
