Hilton to Design Rooms for US Space Station...Is the Space Hotel Becoming a Reality?
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The global hotel chain Hilton announced that it will be in charge of designing rooms for a private American space station. With commercial private space stations expected to be operational as early as 2027, expectations for hotel businesses targeting private individuals in outer space are growing.
According to CNBC on the 19th (local time), Hilton announced in a statement that it has signed a contract with Voyager Space, which is developing a commercial private space station, to design rooms for the space station. Hilton will be responsible for designing the rooms of 'Starlab,' a space station jointly developed by Voyager Space and Lockheed Martin.
Christopher Nassetta, CEO of Hilton, stated, "Hilton will have the opportunity to enhance customer experiences wherever people travel by leveraging the unique space environment."
Starlab is one of four commercial private space stations being promoted by NASA. In addition, NASA has signed space station construction contracts with Blue Origin, led by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, as well as Axiom Space and Northrop Grumman.
