DL E&C Wins LG Chem ABS Project Worth 440.4 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] DL E&C announced on the 20th that it has signed a contract with LG Chem for the construction project of the ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) reconstruction investment project. This project was ordered by LG Chem to replace aging production lines, and DL E&C secured the contract independently. The total contract amount is 440.4 billion KRW.
DL E&C will build a factory capable of producing 220,000 tons of ABS annually on the LG Chem plant site located in the Yeosu petrochemical complex. DL E&C will handle everything from design, equipment procurement, construction, to commissioning.
LG Chem is currently the global market leader in ABS and decided on this investment to solidify its number one position in both domestic and international ABS markets. Compared to general plastics, ABS is resistant to impact and heat and has excellent moldability, making it mainly used in home appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners, as well as automotive materials.
An LG Chem official explained, “LG Chem, equipped with the capability to produce high value-added ABS products, holds an advantage in scale competition,” adding, “We will continuously increase the proportion of high value-added products to secure differentiated competitiveness.”
