Seung-il Jeon, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Raises Need for 'Seo-gu Urban Regeneration Support Center' Installation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Jeon Seung-il, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, argued for the necessity of establishing the ‘Seo-gu Urban Regeneration Support Center’ for the post-management of urban regeneration areas.

He also pointed out that the scale of the national budget has been partially reduced or changed due to the new government’s urban regeneration policy direction shifting from ‘preservation’ to ‘business feasibility.’

Councilman Jeon stated, “Seo-gu in Gwangju, where a total of 47.2 billion KRW has been invested in urban regeneration projects, has as many as 51 urban regeneration hub facilities, which is nearly twice the number compared to other districts (Nam-gu 27, Buk-gu 15). Given the enormous budget invested, operating an Urban Regeneration Support Center is essential for the post-management and operation of urban regeneration areas, but Seo-gu is the only one among the five districts in Gwangju without such a center.”

Meanwhile, the Urban Regeneration Support Center, which acts as a control tower for the functions of each hub facility, plays a role in connecting villages within urban regeneration areas and laying the foundation for building a sustainable village community ecosystem.
