[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 15th that it will operate the ‘Car-Free Street to Cheongwadae’ linked to the opening of Cheongwadae from the 17th until December 31. The city plans to operate a 500m section from Yeongbinmun to Chunghumun as a ‘car-free street’ on weekends and public holidays to enhance pedestrian convenience for visitors following the opening of Cheongwadae.
To operate the Cheongwadae Car-Free Street, Seoul City will restrict traffic on both directions of the road in front of Cheongwadae and the uphill section from the Brazilian Embassy in Korea to Chunghumun from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. Additionally, the City Circulation Bus No. 01 and the Seoul City Tour Bus will detour from Hyoja-dong Fountain towards Seochon.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and alleviate citizen inconvenience, traffic police and exemplary drivers will be deployed along the operation section, while small-scale street performances for Cheongwadae visitors and pedestrians will be held to create Cheongwadae Road as a cultural space for citizens.
