Comprehensive Plan to Guarantee Basic Academic Skills to Be Announced at the End of September
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation will hold a public hearing on the 16th to establish the 'Comprehensive Plan for Guaranteeing Basic Academic Skills.'
The Comprehensive Plan for Guaranteeing Basic Academic Skills is a national-level comprehensive plan established every five years through deliberation by the Basic Academic Skills Guarantee Committee in accordance with the Basic Academic Skills Guarantee Act. The Ministry of Education plans to announce the 'Comprehensive Plan for Guaranteeing Basic Academic Skills' by the end of September.
The plan includes providing initial diagnosis through a basic academic skills diagnosis and correction system and a basic academic skills improvement support site, converting customized academic achievement self-assessments into computer adaptive testing for integrated diagnosis, and establishing an AI-based learning diagnosis and support system linked with a digital teaching and learning integrated platform by the second half of 2025.
Cooperative classes with two instructors per class, comprehensive support through the operation of Dodream Schools, and tutoring projects linked with pre-service teachers' practicums will also continue. To enhance teacher professionalism, customized training courses for learning support education will be developed and conducted by each metropolitan and provincial office of education, and the number of 'learning support teachers' who manage students requiring learning support and provide learning support education will be increased.
The contents discussed at the public hearing were prepared through the collection of opinions from metropolitan and provincial offices of education. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the public hearing will be held online. On the 16th, it will be broadcast live on YouTube from 2 p.m., and anyone can participate online.
Focusing on the main contents prepared through discussions by dedicated task force (TF) members composed of field teachers and academic experts for each detailed task, Professor Ban Jaecheon of Chungnam National University and Vice Principal Yang Eunsuk of Cheongha Elementary School will each give keynote presentations related to guaranteeing basic academic skills, followed by designated discussions with teachers and parents and a comprehensive discussion among participants.
