A Drunk Driver in His 30s Who Fled on Foot... The Victim Is a Colleague from the Same Dormitory

According to the Changwon Jungbu Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 13th, driver A, in his 30s, hit a man in his 40s, B, who was walking on the shoulder, with his SUV while driving in the third lane of a one-way three-lane road toward Jangbok Tunnel at Sinchon Square, Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, at around 9:58 p.m. on the 7th.
A fled the scene without providing aid, and B was found dead at the scene around 7 a.m. on the 8th after being reported by a passing driver on the same road.
The police analyzed black box footage and CCTV and announced that they urgently arrested A, who was working at a company in the Changwon area, at around 2 p.m. on the 8th.
A’s vehicle was found at the employee dormitory of A’s company, about 4 km away from the accident site.
The police applied the crime of hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and detained A.
According to the police investigation, victim B was an employee of the same company as A and was living in the same dormitory, walking toward the dormitory on the day of the accident.
It was also confirmed that a man in his 30s, C, was riding in A’s vehicle at the time of the accident.
The police said, “Considering the elapsed time after drinking, we applied the Widmark formula, a method to calculate blood alcohol concentration at the time of driving, and estimated that A’s blood alcohol concentration was at the level of license cancellation,” adding, “A has admitted to the charges.”
