[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Myunghwan] Contentree Joongang is showing strong performance in the market on the morning of the 13th following the success of Netflix's new series "Suriname."
As of 10:03 AM on the same day, Contentree Joongang is trading at 40,750 KRW, up 5.16% (2,000 KRW) from the previous trading day.
The success of "Suriname," produced by a subsidiary of Contentree Joongang, on the global online video service (OTT) Netflix has attracted investor expectations. According to FlixPatrol, an online content service ranking site, "Suriname," released on the 9th, ranked 8th worldwide in the Netflix TV program category as of the 11th.
"Suriname" is an action drama depicting the story of a civilian businessman cooperating with the National Intelligence Service's secret operation to capture a Korean drug lord controlling Suriname. The film is directed by Yoon Jong-bin, who also directed "Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time" (2011) and "The Spy Gone North" (2018). The cast includes Ha Jung-woo, Hwang Jung-min, Park Hae-soo, Jo Woo-jin, Yoo Yeon-seok, and Zhang Chen.

Kim Hoe-jae, a researcher at Daishin Securities, said, "Since May 2020, Contentree Joongang has supplied about 20 JTBC Netflix simultaneous broadcast works to Netflix over three years and signed contracts to supply about 2 to 3 original works annually. From 2021, in addition to Netflix, they have supplied content such as tvN's 'High Class,' Disney+'s 'Snowdrop,' 2022's TVING 'Ghost Doctor,' 'Rose Mansion,' KBS2's 'Now, We Are Breaking Up,' and ENA's 'Good Job,' which is expected to lead to improved profitability."
