Yongsan Craft Center and Craft Promotion Hall 'Autumn Exhibition'
Seasonal Exhibition 'Cheonghanjihwan' Showcases and Sells Fall-Appropriate Ceramics... Yongsan Craft Center Resident Artists' Exhibition 'Craft from Yongsan: Dabangsa Exhibition'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) presents a special ‘Craft Exhibition’ that offers the leisure of a cup of tea on an autumn day.
First, as the fourth Yongsan Craft Center seasonal special exhibition of the year, ‘Cheonghanjihwan (淸閑之歡)’ is planned and will welcome domestic and international tourists until November 1.
Cheonghanjihwan means ‘quiet and leisurely joy.’
The exhibition space is arranged using the first-floor sales area of Yongsan Craft Center and the wall of the craft promotion hall on the third floor of Yongsan Station. Works by emerging artists Kim Seung-yong and Lee Nari related to tea culture, such as teacups and soban (small trays), are displayed. These works are evaluated as reinterpretations of Korea’s unique sentiment based on pottery, Onggi (traditional Korean earthenware), and Buncheong techniques, adapted to the current food culture trends.
From September 13 to November 6, the ‘Craft from Yongsan: Dabangsa Exhibition’ will be held in the exhibition hall on the fourth floor of Yongsan Craft Center.
Dabangsa (茶飯事) refers to the common daily routine of ‘drinking tea and eating rice,’ and visitors can see special craftworks by 15 resident artists of the craft center themed around tea. The fields are diverse, including metalwork, folk painting, hanji (traditional Korean paper), cloisonn?, embroidery, knots, Mangsusu (traditional Korean straw crafts), and lacquerware.
On the 17th at 3 p.m., a tea ceremony demonstration by tea master Lee Myung-hee is also prepared.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Our ancestors enjoyed drinking tea and spent time in contemplation,” adding, “I hope tourists visiting the exhibition hall can take a moment to rest amid their busy daily lives and find peace of mind.”
Located in Hannam-dong, Yongsan Craft Center consists of a first-floor craft sales area, a second-floor ceramics and hanbok experience center, a third-floor craft learning center and workshop, and a fourth-floor exhibition hall and outdoor performance space. It operates from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and admission is free.
