View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On the 12th, the National Police Agency announced that Kim Donghyun, a researcher at the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency, and Choi Bongcheol, a sergeant at the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, won the grand prize at the cybercrime tracking technique competition "Pol-Cyber Challenge" held on the 2nd.
In the preliminary round of the competition, the police evaluated cybercrime-solving abilities based on the scenario of "tracking malicious programs that steal virtual assets distributed through spear phishing," and in the final round, the scenario was "advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks targeting telecommuters." A total of 83 participants, including police officers, general public officials, and trainees affiliated with the National Police Agency, formed 58 teams of one to two members and competed, with the "SSOMAC" team, consisting of researcher Kim and sergeant Choi, receiving the highest score.

Both are experts who majored in computer engineering and have a history of winning awards at domestic information security competitions. They also have extensive practical experience gained from years of service in cyber investigation departments. Sergeant Choi said, "I will continuously study the latest information technology and strive to utilize it in investigations." Researcher Kim stated, "I will take the lead in creating a safer internet space by developing analytical techniques that can respond to increasingly complex cybercrimes."
