According to Gyeongnam fire dispatch statistics, the average number of daily fires over the past five years from 2017 to 2021 was 7.6 on regular days and 5.3 during the Chuseok holiday.
The Fire Headquarters analyzed that although fires occur about 30% less during the holiday period than usual, many fires are caused by carelessness in residential facilities.
Accordingly, the Fire Headquarters plans to establish an emergency response system centered on fire station chiefs and enter special alert duty.
The headquarters announced that it conducted special fire inspections and on-site administrative guidance for 312 multi-use facilities to strengthen safety management, and took improvement measures for inadequate facilities.
Mobilizing 4,157 firefighters, 47 mandatory firefighters, 9,550 volunteer firefighters, and 674 pieces of equipment, they will also engage in on-site response and situation management centered on fire station chiefs to enable 100% dispatch of available firefighting forces in preparation for emergencies.
At densely populated facilities such as train stations and terminals, ambulances will be pre-positioned on-site to establish a proactive response system for various safety accidents, and 119 emergency situation management will be strengthened in preparation for hospital and clinic closures.
The concentration time of 119 calls will also be analyzed in advance to reinforce staffing.
For 119 vulnerable fire areas including traditional markets, train stations, and terminals, safety patrols will be expanded jointly with volunteer firefighters, and resident publicity will be conducted for fire safety management in apartment complexes, such as securing exclusive fire truck zones.
