[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] "Do not appoint people based on personal connections. Train your juniors."
This is what Jung Young-chae, CEO of NH Investment & Securities, said to Kim Jung-gon, Head of the Equity Capital Markets (ECM) Division, just before the personnel and organizational reshuffle in June. Jung's emphasis on nurturing juniors is shining within the organization as well.
Earlier, NH Investment & Securities replaced the ECM department heads with those born in the 1980s. Kim Ki-hwan, Head of ECM Division 1; Kwak Hyung-seo, Head of ECM Division 2; and Yoon Jong-yoon, Head of ECM Division 3, were born in 1980 (age 42), 1979 (age 43), and 1980 (age 42), respectively. The age group of the department heads is about 10 years younger than their predecessors (born in 1971).
It is known that CEO Jung Young-chae and Head Kim Jung-gon shared a consensus on the need to cultivate successors born in the late 1970s to early 1980s with the future in mind. However, the keyword for personnel changes cannot be seen merely as a 'generation replacement.'
The personnel structure was changed to allow talented individuals to stay longer in the company and achieve results. The 'Super RM' is a representative example. Super RMs are aces who report directly to the headquarters and focus solely on deal sourcing without holding other positions.
They receive definite performance rewards. Accordingly, personnel in the ECM division are divided into professional tracks that benefit from promotion paths and incentives. Head Kim Jung-gon said, "It is not good for the company if talented individuals with networks honed at NH Investment & Securities move to competitors," adding, "We must enable them to earn a lot of money while working for the company."
Recently, CEO Jung Young-chae stated on social media, "A society and organization lacking young people cannot sustain continuous growth," and "Our company has a dream."
This is because NH Investment & Securities was selected as one of the top 10 companies where junior employees (with less than 7 years of experience) want to work in the first half of this year. Junior employees at NH Investment & Securities cited education, welfare, and opportunities as strengths.
