Gwangju Northern Fire Department Promotes 'Bee Sting Accident Prevention Measures'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Northern Fire Station will implement a 'Bee Sting Accident Prevention Plan' until the 18th.
In the past three years, an average of 5,248 bee sting accidents have occurred, and among them, 1,827 cases, accounting for 34.8%, were concentrated before Chuseok.
Accordingly, the fire station has maintained beehive removal equipment such as hornet protective suits in a ready-to-use state at all times, and the special emergency squad is strengthening its readiness for dispatch by pre-inspecting emergency treatment drugs for bee sting patients in case of incidents.
In addition, preventive activities such as patrolling and campaigns will be conducted on major hiking trails around Unamsan and Samgaksan and large-scale ancestral rites and grass-cutting sites.
The methods to prevent bee stings during ancestral rites and grass-cutting are: first, reduce odors that stimulate bees (perfume, cosmetics, etc.); second, wear bright-colored clothing and minimize exposure of arms and legs; third, if a beehive is discovered, do not attempt to remove it rashly but slowly move to another location.
Also, if stung by a bee, it is best to quickly move more than 20 meters away from the spot, remove the bee sting with a card or similar object, and receive hospital treatment.
