Hyundai Motor Group Successfully Concludes 'Happy Move The Green' Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 31st that it held the 'Happy Move The Green Completion Ceremony' at The-K Hotel Seoul, attended by key officials including Yang Jin-mo, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group, Noh Jeom-hwan, Director of Korea Tourism Organization, Son Young-im, Director of Korea National Park Service, and 100 university student members.
The 100 university student members of ‘Happy Move The Green’ successfully carried out various environment-related activities over two months starting in July, including ▲group volunteer work at national parks ▲team-based environmental volunteer activities ▲planning and executing eco-friendly domestic trips themed around energy, water, waste, food, and local issues.
At the completion ceremony, the program included presentations of eco-friendly travel reviews planned and undertaken by the student members themselves, awards for outstanding teams, and the distribution of certificates.
The teams selected as outstanding were the 'Yeolsip (열十)' team and the 'Re;Earth' team, who traveled to environmentally significant locations such as Incheon Sorae Ecological Wetland and Buan Renewable Energy Theme Park, focusing on ‘The Future of Local’ and ‘The Future of Energy,’ respectively. Notably, during their trips, they predicted carbon emissions and made efforts to minimize them, structuring their schedules to raise public awareness about the environment, which earned them high praise.
Im Jae-yong, a member of the Re;Earth team, shared, “Eco-friendly travel required abandoning existing habits and was an opportunity to reflect on my daily life. I have been thinking a lot about what role I play for the future of the Earth, and this trip became a chance to fill in the gaps.”
Hyundai Motor Group, through operating the ‘Happy Move The Green’ program in collaboration with Korea Tourism Organization and Korea National Park Service, provided university students with special eco-friendly activity experiences beyond their daily lives. By utilizing the themes of volunteering and travel, it contributed to naturally raising awareness about the environment and presented a new model of public-private cooperation.
The Korea National Park Service supported both the group volunteer activities for all student members, such as coastal dune restoration and invasive plant removal at Taean Coast National Park’s Anmyeon Beach and Gijipo Beach, and the team-based volunteer activities conducted frequently by members at over 20 national parks nationwide for nature conservation.
Korea Tourism Organization provided feedback from environmental and tourism experts to enhance the quality of the eco-friendly domestic trips planned by the student members over three days and two nights. Additionally, outstanding travel reviews submitted by the students will be posted on external promotional channels such as the ‘Korea Tourism Organization’s Korea Travel Online’ website.
Since 2008, Hyundai Motor Group has operated the ‘Happy Move Global Youth Volunteer Corps,’ where university students have engaged in volunteer activities in various fields such as architecture, environment, education, and culture overseas, producing over 10,000 graduates cumulatively. However, considering the COVID-19 situation, the program was temporarily suspended after activities in January 2020.
This summer’s ‘Happy Move The Green’ marks Hyundai Motor Group’s resumption of the university student volunteer program after more than two years, shifting the scope of activities from overseas to domestic. The program was designed around the theme of the environment, a social issue of high interest among university students, and recruitment was conducted nationwide in May.
