Goseong Gogo Gaya Residents Protection Group 'Promoting Goseong to the World'
Building Consensus for the World Heritage Listing of Songhakdong Tumuli Cluster
Goseong County in Gyeongnam held a meeting of the "Goseong Gogo Gaya Residents Protection Group" at the Goseong Museum.

The meeting was organized for 30 members of the Goseong Gogo Gaya Residents Protection Group to build consensus on preserving the outstanding value of the Gaya Tumuli and registering it as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
With the goal of registering the Gaya Tumuli as a World Heritage site by June 2023, the meeting included encouragement for the members of the Goseong Gogo Gaya Residents Protection Group who have spared no effort so far, along with ▲ an explanation of the progress on the World Heritage registration of the Gaya Tumuli ▲ a report on the promotion status of Sogaya history in 2022 ▲ other discussions and suggestions.
The Goseong Gogo Gaya Residents Protection Group was launched in August 2019 with 26 members and, as of January 2022, consists of 44 members led by Chairman Ha Hyeon-gap.
They focus on ▲ supporting and promoting the World Heritage registration ▲ preserving and cleaning the Songhak-dong Tumuli in Goseong ▲ and building Goseong as a city where Sogaya history and culture coexist.
County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “During the two vigorous months since my inauguration as county governor last July, it was a time to reaffirm that building ‘Goseong where history and culture coexist’ is a task that our residents must create together,” and added, “We will definitely register the Goseong Songhak-dong Tumuli, which holds the brilliant history and culture of the maritime kingdom Sogaya, as a World Heritage site by June 2023 so that Goseong can shine as ‘Goseong in the world.’”

Chairman Ha Hyeon-gap said, “We expect the Goseong Gogo Gaya Residents Protection Group to play a pivotal role not only in the World Heritage registration of the Goseong Songhak-dong Tumuli but also in building Goseong as a city of Sogaya historical culture,” and added, “I ask that you continue to unite your efforts to the end for the World Heritage registration through various monitoring, promotion, learning, and education activities.”
