Gangwon-do Establishes ICT Advanced Intersections in Child Protection Zones
Pilot Installation at 36 Sites Requiring Urgent Improvement
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province is promoting a pilot project this year to install advanced ICT (Information Communication Technology) crosswalks incorporating information and communication technology within school zones.
According to the province on the 31st, among the 753 school zones in the province, urgent improvements are being made at 31 locations, including reinforcement of safety facilities such as speed bumps, installation of 117 unmanned traffic enforcement devices, and 137 visibility enhancement facilities (such as yellow carpets).
This year, the existing traffic safety facilities will be upgraded to pedestrian-centered 'ICT Advanced Crosswalk Construction Projects' using ICT and AI at 36 school zones as a pilot installation.
The main technologies introduced in the 'ICT Advanced Crosswalk' include a 'Pedestrian Signal Auto-Extension System' that recognizes pedestrians who fail to cross during the pedestrian signal time and automatically extends the crossing time within the allowed time range (5-10 seconds), as well as 'Zone Identification Enhancement Facilities' such as ground traffic lights and luminous traffic safety signs.
