Say "Private Space Development" Instead of "New Space"
The Alternative Term for Grooming Sexual Crimes Recommended as 'Hwansim-type Sexual Crimes'
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on the 31st that the term 'new space' be replaced with the Korean phrase 'mingan uju gaebal' (private space development). They also suggested 'hwansimhyeong seongbeomjoe' (appeasement-type sexual crime) as a Korean alternative to 'grooming seongbeomjoe' (grooming sexual crime).
'New space' refers to space development led by the private sector. It contrasts with government-led space development known as 'old space.' On the 17th, the Ministry and the Institute reviewed the appropriateness and usability of terms at the Saemal Meeting and decided on 'mingan uju gaebal' as the replacement term. The selection also reflected survey results. In a public acceptance survey conducted from the 19th to the 25th with about 2,000 participants, 90.9% of respondents answered that the term was appropriate. Additionally, 72.9% agreed on the necessity of a Korean alternative.
'Grooming seongbeomjoe' refers to sexual crimes committed after psychologically controlling the victim. The Ministry and the Institute selected 'hwansimhyeong seongbeomjoe' as the appropriate Korean term.
