Collaboration on Nuclear Workforce Training in Ethiopia... UNIST and AASTU Sign MOU for Academic Exchange and Joint Research in Nuclear Engineering
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] UNIST has decided to support the establishment of the first graduate school in the field of nuclear engineering in Africa, located in Ethiopia.
The university also plans to promote international cooperation in nuclear workforce training and research.
On the 30th at 10:30 a.m., UNIST signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ethiopia's Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) in the large conference room on the 6th floor of the university headquarters.
According to the agreement, the two universities will promote academic exchanges and joint research in the field of nuclear engineering.
AASTU is preparing to establish the first graduate program in nuclear engineering in Ethiopia.
Through the agreement, UNIST will support AASTU and plans to lay the groundwork for future cooperation between South Korea and Ethiopia regarding nuclear power plants.
Under the agreement, the two universities will implement ▲ cooperation on graduate curriculum in nuclear engineering ▲ research support for AASTU students ▲ support for equipment necessary for advanced research and development ▲ seminars and staff training related to the use of electron microscope equipment.
UNIST President Lee Yong-hoon said, "With this MOU, UNIST expands its scope of international cooperation and expects to secure outstanding global talents," adding, "We hope this will be an opportunity for South Korea to gain a favorable position in the technical review and decision-making of nuclear power plants to be introduced in Ethiopia."

The 'UNIST-AASTU MOU Signing Ceremony' was attended by key figures from both universities, including UNIST President Lee Yong-hoon, Dean of Engineering Kim Sung-yeop, Professors Lee Deok-jung and Yoon Ui-sung, and AASTU President Dereje Engida, Vice President for Academic Affairs Tarekegn Berhanu, and Professor Son Dong-sung.
