Hwasun-gun Supports Installation of Food Waste Volume-based Waste Bins

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun announced on the 29th that it will support the installation of food waste volume-based meters (RFID) in apartment complexes to reduce food waste and improve the disposal environment.

By introducing food waste volume-based meters (RFID, hereinafter referred to as volume meters), residents use individual disposal cards when disposing of food waste, and the amount of waste is automatically measured, with fees (included in maintenance costs) charged per household based on the amount disposed.

There is no need to separately purchase food waste volume-based bags, and even small amounts of food waste can be conveniently disposed of at any time.

Since fees are charged differently according to the amount disposed, it encourages residents to reduce waste voluntarily and resolves fee fairness issues based on the principle that the disposer bears the cost.

Applicants must be apartment complexes with 90 or more households capable of operating and managing the volume meters (RFID). Up to five meters per apartment complex will be supported.

The application period is until the 8th of next month, and apartment complexes wishing to install the meters can apply to the Environment and Resource Circulation Team by referring to the public notice on the county office website.

If selected as a project target, the full cost of purchasing and installing the volume meters will be supported. After installation, maintenance costs will be borne by the apartment complex.

A county official said, “Once the volume meters are distributed, it is expected to reduce food waste by about 30%,” and added, “We hope many residents will take an interest in the installation of volume meters, which play a significant role in reducing waste disposal costs and protecting the environment.”
