[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The ‘2022 1st Semester Innopolis Campus Demo Day,’ a competition stage for Ulsan entrepreneurs, was held on the 25th at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST).

The event, organized by UNIST, the core technology institution of the Ulsan·Ulju Small and Medium Research and Development Special Zone, took place at UNISPARK, UNIST’s student startup space.

Along with the Demo Day presentations by 20 teams participating in this semester’s Innopolis Campus project, a specialized seminar by Choi Byung-jin, senior advisor at LG Chem, was held. The seminar focused on the ‘future battery industry,’ a specialized field of the Ulsan·Ulju Small and Medium Special Zone.

During the Demo Day, after presentations and evaluations of the startup items by the 20 teams, two teams were awarded the Grand Prize (Ulsan Mayor’s Award) and three teams received Excellence Awards (UNIST President’s Award).

The Grand Prize winners were Piler Co., Ltd. and The Road Co., Ltd., while the Excellence Awards went to Giving Days Co., Ltd., Map Co., Ltd., and Pylico Co., Ltd. The two teams awarded the Ulsan Mayor’s Award will represent Ulsan at the nationwide IR competition for seven Small and Medium Research and Development Special Zones scheduled for November.

Joo Tae-yeop, Director of Future New Industry at Ulsan City’s Innovation Industry Bureau, who attended the event, introduced the Innopolis Campus project led by UNIST as “a project that, based on the startup support know-how of the UNIST Ulsan·Ulju Small and Medium Special Zone, verifies and nurtures promising prospective entrepreneurs’ ideas and items, supporting early-stage startups to grow and leap forward according to each stage.”

The event was attended by Director Joo Tae-yeop and officials from the Research and Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation. Last year’s Innopolis Campus project operated in the Ulsan·Ulju Small and Medium Research and Development Special Zone achieved results including 14 startups, 46 jobs created, and investment connections worth 1.61 billion KRW.
