[Asia Economy Military Specialist Yang Nak-gyu] The air forces of South Korea and the United States are conducting the Korea-US joint exercise "Ulchi Freedom Shield" (UFS) as part of the "Ssangmae Training" (Buddy Wing). This exercise involves the 120th Fighter Squadron of the 20th Fighter Wing of the Republic of Korea Air Force and the 36th Squadron of the 51st Fighter Wing of the US 7th Air Force Command. More than 40 US military personnel and F-16 fighter jets have deployed to the 20th Fighter Wing to conduct training alongside the ROK Air Force's KF-16 fighter jets. The Buddy Wing training is a battalion-level exercise that has been ongoing since 1997, where Korean and US air force fighter pilots deploy to each other's bases to exchange air operation tactics and cultivate joint operational capabilities.
